The Sussex Heritage Trust Person of the Year Award goes to Richard Meynell, who has dedicated over 40 years to preserving and enhancing the architectural heritage of Sussex. A specialist in historic conservation, he served nearly three decades as Architect to the Dean and Chapter at Chichester Cathedral, overseeing major restorations including Vicars Close and the Cloisters Café. His impact extends across more than 35 medieval churches, with acclaimed work at St Andrew’s Church, Ford, and beyond.
Richard has also revitalised historic homes such as Pallant House and Stoughton Manor, and mentored future conservation professionals through teaching and partnership. His enduring passion is matched by his lasting contributions to Sussex’s built heritage.
David Cowan, Chairman of the Sussex Heritage Trust said:
“Richard has made an exceptional contribution to the architectural and heritage landscape of Sussex. He is a deeply deserving recipient of the 2025 Sussex Heritage Trust Person of the Year Award.”
