The Great Barn Project’s aim was to carry out restoration and repairs with replacement timbers kept to a minimum or to use oak from the estate for any shortfall, making the building accessible to the public and providing information about the history of the building, incorporating the use of an adjoining store for a display of the development of the garden, whilst ensuring the barn remains a living entity and place of work that contributes to the life of the garden. Also included in the project was the use of an outbuilding for a biomass heating system for the main house.

Eames Farm Stables resulted from the conversion and restoration of a dilapidated and redundant barn built between 1879 and 1897, into an educational recourse centre with support office for the Chichester Harbour Conservancy, plus an additional office and store for commercial rent, located on reclaimed land.

The Horder Healthcare Centre, St John’s Road, Crowborough TN6 1XP
A new entrance and reception area was created using natural stone and wood wherever possible and with natural colours in shades of green and brown to blend in with the surrounding Ashdown Forest. A new coffee shop was incorporated into the main reception with soft seating areas. A new physiotherapy gym was designed with an atrium and opened for classes to the public with new treatment rooms for outpatients and physiotherapy services ensuring that patients privacy and dignity is maintained at all times. An area that had originally been open-bay wards was converted into a modern day services unit.

An extension and alterations to part of a Victorian property – Rectory Cottage – circa 1885, containing the Parish Room/Pre School Facility. A large enclosed deck area was created to provide an external extension with new fenestration to the main room including large storage cupboards or the Playgroup. As Bodiam does not have a village hall, various community groups now use the improvements and space.

The project was to reorder the interior of the medieval church to provide cloakroom and catering facilities together with meeting rooms for community use, whilst retaining improved worship space facilities. The works included the placing of contemporary interior structure within the ancient fabric using modern materials with frameless glazing to give transparency. Also included were new under floor heating, improved sound system facilities and new lighting, lifting the original dark and tired interior to provide light and welcoming spaces.

The scheme was the provision of a “floating” Gallery at the west end of the Chapel within the Tower utilising the original blind openings through the west wall, which gave access to the dining hall Gallery. A new staircase formed within the dining hall, also utilising an original Victorian spiral staircase to access the gallery avoided the need for any steps or stairs within the Chapel.

Originally a set of dilapidated farm buildings including a conversion of a dwelling in the early 1990’s, set into an overgrown chalk bank with courtyard and outbuildings with a “sea” of concrete hard standing, which caused flooding in front of the dwelling. The new proposals involved replacement of the redundant buildings to form a courtyard arrangement with contemporary link using key environmental features including rainwater harvesting, ground source heat pump, photovoltaic roof plus solar and sedum roof areas.

The site consisted of an abandoned building that had been boarded up for many years. The land around was plagued with fly tipping and other inappropriate use so became an eye sore and a problem. A scheme was approved to make use of this difficult brownfield site with the aim to create a modern sustainable home including high levels of insulation combined with many sustainable features, which used the existing structure rather than complete demolition.
