Conservation of First World War Memorials

With 2014 marking the Centenary of the start of the First World War, Sussex Associations of Local Councils and Sussex Heritage Trust, embarked on a campaign to help repair and conserve war memorials in Sussex, in association with War Memorials Trust.

The first stage was to invite town and parish councils to register their interest to trevor.leggo@ruralsussex.org.uk and, with the aid of photographs give an indication of the condition of their memorials. This could lead to grant aid from War Memorial Trust.

War Memorials Online also provides an opportunity for the public to help create a greater understanding of the condition of war memorials through the UK by adding information, sharing photos and uploading condition details. Concerns about the condition of, or issues around war memorials can also be reported at www.warmemorialsonline.org.uk.
