RICHARD HOLLOWAY
FOR BRICKWORK RENOVATION AND TUCK POINTING OF COLLIER ROAD, HASTINGS
The brickwork on the front elevation of the semi-detached house, circa 1900, had fallen into disrepair. The aim was to carefully replace the damaged and corroded bricks and restored the building to its original appearance. As a bricklayer and Tuck Pointing Specialist, Richard needed to sympathetically integrate the original cast in situ frame lintels. The decorative corbels were also in a poor state of repair and required particular attention.

LIAM O’NEILL, LION ROOFING
FOR ROOFING WORK TO ST JOHN PRIORY, ARUNDEL
The re-roof of the North facing slope of the 13th-century chapel. Due to the roof being north facing it had stayed damp for most of the year and therefore most of the machine clay tiles and Horsham Stone had significant water damage. The decision was made to use all reclaimed peg tiles and re-lay the Horsham Stone as a single lap system instead of double lap. Glendyne Slate was sourced to replace the Welsh Slate as it had the same rock formation.

The window was then reassembled on site before the lead lights glazing and casements were refitted.

HIGHLY COMMENDED
DAVID SKINNER, BLACKSMITH
FOR NEW WEATHERVANE AT ST GEORGE’S CHURCH, BREDE
The new vane, commemorating the Platinum Jubilee of her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, was designed by former church architect Richard Crook, and was made with meticulous care by Blacksmith David Skinner. Because the replacement central post of the spire rises over a metre higher than the eroded remains of its predecessor, thus respecting the spire’s original proportions, the vane is far more visible not only from the centre of the village, but also from the valley below.
