The Aldingbourne Trust wanted to secure its long-term future and expand its support to adults with learning difficulties. The challenge was to create a high-quality visitor centre with limited and uncertain financial resources. The new community focused building offers a conference centre, gift and coffee shop and the Bradbury Training Kitchen.

NewRiver REIT plc and West Sussex County Council’s new Burgess Hill Library is part of the £60 million town centre regeneration plans. The new 6,950 sq ft air-conditioned library is 100 sq ft larger than the old library and includes a lift, computer area, new flexible shelving, dedicated children’s area and a Changing Places accessible toilet facility.

The aim of the project was to create a forward looking building with exemplary sustainability credentials and to add a specific youth facility to the existing community centre. Built on a brownfield site, formerly an electronics factory, there were specific challenges. The Centre comprises a main activity hall, meeting rooms and landscaped exterior spaces.

West Dean House is a Grade II* building central to the delivery of the College’s courses. The 130-year-old roof was completely restored with all works carried out around the College’s day to day activities. The repairs required a temporary roof with an independent scaffold designed to span the existing building without taking any load off the existing structure.

DREAM CENTRE CHAILEY HERITAGE FOUNDATION, HAYWARDS HEATH ROAD, NORTH CHAILEY BN8 4EF
The remodelling and extension of 1960’s memorial hall into a multi-purpose facility for the Young People at Chailey Heritage Foundation. Much of the original fabric was retained, given the embodied carbon in the structure, and converted to house a stage, back of house areas and a new entrance alongside a new main hall.

Jamie’s Farm is a charity that combines farming, family, and therapy for disadvantaged young people. BBM were appointed to convert and refurb an existing 19th-century Grade II listed farmhouse into communal accommodation and surrounding agricultural buildings into a working farm and office and living accommodation for on-site supporting staff.

A brand-new purpose-built Hospice on a new site, maintaining the ‘homely’ feel of the previous hospice building. The design was to divide the hospice into separate buildings which are linked. As in a semi-rural area the most appropriate style of building would be a former farm with contemporary links.
