Spotlight on Sponsors: Hawes Construction Group

Article by: 08/04/2026

Can you briefly introduce your organisation and tell us what you do?

Hawes Construction Group is a family-led construction company specialising in high-quality building, restoration, and refurbishment projects across East & West Sussex. We combine traditional craftsmanship with modern construction methods to deliver projects that respect their surroundings, enhance communities, and stand the test of time.

How long have you been operating in Sussex (or connected to the region)?

We have been proudly operating in Sussex for nearly 13 years. Our roots in the region run deep, and many of our long-standing clients, partners, and suppliers are based here.

What is your organisation’s connection to heritage, conservation, or the built environment?

Our work frequently involves sensitive restoration and refurbishment of historic buildings, ensuring they remain structurally sound, usable, and beautiful for generations to come. We work closely with national heritage bodies, architects, and local authorities to respect the historical integrity of each site.

What inspired your organisation to become a sponsor of the Sussex Heritage Trust Awards?

We value the work of the Sussex Heritage Trust and recognise how vital it is in championing the conservation and celebration of the county’s unique built environment. Sponsoring the Awards allows us to support the individuals and organisations who share our commitment to preserving Sussex’s architectural legacy.

How long have you been involved as a sponsor or supporter?

We sponsored the Awards lunch for the first time last year and are delighted to sponsor them again this year. We also had some success with two of our projects winning awards in 2025.

What does being a sponsor mean to your organisation?

Being a sponsor is an opportunity to give back to the communities we work in and to help protect the future of heritage conservation work in Sussex.

Why do you believe it’s important to support heritage projects and organisations in Sussex?

Sussex has a rich architectural history from castles to farmhouses and supporting local heritage projects preserves these landmarks, boosts pride and tourism, and strengthens community connections.

Are there any particular Sussex heritage projects or success stories that have inspired you?

We are continually inspired by the diversity of projects recognised by the Sussex Heritage Trust Awards, especially those where historic buildings have been sensitively adapted for modern use such as Saltdean Lido. These projects highlight what’s possible when conservation, creativity, and craftsmanship come together.

How do you see the future of heritage in Sussex?

We see a future where heritage is not only preserved but actively integrated into modern life. With growing awareness of sustainability and the value of re-use, historic buildings are increasingly being restored, repurposed, and celebrated rather than replaced. This creates a built environment that honours the past while meeting contemporary needs.

Are there new initiatives, collaborations, or projects you are planning that will support the heritage sector?

We will continue to invest in training our team and forming collaborative partnerships with heritage bodies and professionals.

What does “heritage” mean to you personally?

For us, heritage represents continuity, identity, and respect for the people who built before us, as well as responsibility toward those who will come after.
