Sussex Heritage Trust Legacies

As many of our supporters and friends know we receive no government or public funding towards the work of the Sussex Heritage Trust and are completely reliant on the generosity of our corporate sponsors, trusts, individual donations, and fundraising events.

We have decided to launch a legacy campaign to make our membership aware that they can leave a gift to the Sussex Heritage Trust. Once loved ones have been taken care of, leaving a gift in your Will, no matter what the size of the gift, would make a tremendous difference to the future of heritage in Sussex. Here are some questions you might have about leaving a gift.

How do I leave a Gift to the Sussex Heritage Trust?

  • A residuary legacy in your Will is a share or percentage of your estate after all other gifts and debts have been paid.
  • A pecuniary or cash legacy in your Will is a fixed sum of money.
  • A specific legacy in your Will is a particular asset such as property, shares or personal possessions.
  • You might need the Sussex Heritage Trust’s charity number which is: 274366

What about Inheritance Tax?

Because the Sussex Heritage Trust is a charity, any gift made to us is exempt from Inheritance Tax.

Can I specify how a gift is used?

Yes – but please do speak to us first to ensure that we will be able to honour your wishes.

It is sensible to take independent legal advice when making your Will.

Please do contact the Sussex Heritage Trust office, in confidence, for further details on how you can support the future of the Sussex Heritage Trust on 01243 576 524 or email office@sussexheritagetrust.org.uk
